Canva Review
Design Platform · Design & Image
Where most small teams should start — design, AI generation and brand kit in one tool.
Our take
The highest-leverage design tool for a small business, full stop. One person with no design training can keep a whole brand looking consistent — that was not possible five years ago.

What Canva does
Canva is not the best AI image generator, the best editor or the best video tool, but it is all of them in one place with a brand kit attached, and it is usable by people who are not designers. Magic Studio adds generation, background removal, magic edit and automatic resizing on top.
How marketers actually use it
Set up the brand kit once — fonts, colours, logo — and every person on the team produces on-brand work by default. Design one social post, then use Magic Resize to generate every other placement in a click. That is the whole value proposition, and it holds up.
Best for
- Non-designers producing on-brand social content
- Resizing one design across every channel automatically
- Background removal and quick retouching
- Keeping a whole team inside one brand kit
Watch out for
Everything made in Canva looks a bit like Canva. Push past the templates or your brand will look like everyone else’s.

Is Canva free?
Yes, the free plan is genuinely usable. Canva Pro adds brand kits, Magic Resize, background removal and higher AI limits.
Is Canva Pro worth it?
For any business producing regular social content, yes — brand kits and Magic Resize alone save more time than the subscription costs.
Does Canva-made content look generic?
It can. Everything made from stock templates looks like everything else made from stock templates. Customise past the template or your brand will blend in.
Can I use Canva designs commercially?
Yes, with conditions on stock elements and templates. You cannot trademark a design built from an unmodified Canva template, which matters for logos in particular.
Canva or Adobe Express?
Canva has the larger template library and the smoother experience for non-designers. Express makes sense if you are already in Creative Cloud and want Firefly assets built in.
