What is MCP?
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard way for AI applications to
connect with external tools, data and services through one shared interface.
Before it existed, every AI product needed a bespoke integration for every app —
which is why your assistant could write about your marketing but never actually see it.
With MCP, a company builds one server and any MCP-compatible AI client can use it.
Why should marketers care?
Because it is the difference between an assistant that writes plausible marketing copy and
an agent that opens your Google Analytics property, finds the page that lost 40% of its
organic traffic last month, cross-references it against Search Console, and tells you which
query you lost. One is a writing tool. The other does the job.
You do not need to be a developer. Most servers below install in a few clicks inside
Claude, Claude Code or Cursor — the hard part is choosing which two or three
actually change how you work.
