Midjourney Review
Image Generation · Design & Image
The best-looking text-to-image output available, if you can live without a free tier.
Our take
Still the best-looking output, still the most frustrating to direct. Use it for mood and concept, not for executing a precise brief.

What Midjourney does
Nothing else consistently produces images with this much aesthetic sense. For moodboards, campaign concepts, hero imagery and scroll-stopping social visuals it is still the benchmark. The trade-off is control: it is superb at atmosphere and weak at doing exactly what you specified.
How marketers actually use it
Best used at the concept stage. Generate twenty directions for a campaign in an afternoon, pick the one that captures the feeling, then brief a photographer or designer against it. Trying to make it execute a precise brief instead is where people get frustrated.
Best for
- Campaign moodboards and concept visuals
- Distinctive social and ad imagery
- Backgrounds and textures for landing pages
- Pitching a visual direction before a photoshoot
Watch out for
Precise control is hard, text inside images is unreliable, and there is no free tier — the $10 Basic plan runs out fast.
Midjourney pricing

Is Midjourney free?
No. There is no free tier at all. Basic starts at $10/mo, and the generation allowance on that plan runs out quickly.
Can Midjourney do text in images?
Unreliably. If your creative needs a readable headline baked into the image, use Ideogram instead — it solved that problem far better.
Can I use Midjourney images commercially?
Paid plans include commercial rights, with conditions that vary by tier and company revenue. Check the current terms before using output in paid campaigns.
Why does Midjourney have no free trial?
It removed free trials due to demand and abuse. The $10 Basic plan is the only way in, and its generation allowance runs out quickly in practice.
Is Midjourney still the best image generator?
For aesthetic quality, it remains the benchmark. For text in images Ideogram beats it, for consistency Leonardo beats it, and for commercial safety Firefly beats it.
